Google removes average position and introduces new metrics

Until now, Google allowed you to view the average position of the Ads you run but has now decided to remove this feature and replace it with new metrics.

Instead, we will see the following new metrics, which we can target and use to measure campaign success:

  • Top impression rate
  • Absolute top impression rate
  • Top impression share
  • Absolute top impression share

Google have stated ‘These new metrics give you a much clearer view of your prominence on the page than average position does’. We’re ready to familiarise ourselves with the new metrics and bidding strategies for our clients’ Google Ad campaigns!
